Components of the service include:

* promotion of smokefree environments
*strengthening and increasing the level of community action to reduce the uptake of smoking
*encouraging smokers to quit
*strengthening the skills and knowledge of the health sector and other change agents to promote tobacco control
*strengthening and enhancing the general practice team's delivery of smoking cessation services
